Furnishing the Fun
article from Electronic House Magazine
What do you do with a room that stretches 25 feet by 45 feet? Put in a bowling alley? Hang up a couple of hoops and call it a basketball court? With so much space available, this room on the second floor of a New England home was game for anything. The previous owners had used the space as a home office, but the new owner was thinking more about having fun than handling business when he hired a team of remodelers to redo the space. Acoustic Smart of Merrick, NY, flavored the room with custom seating, acoustical treatments, motorized window treatments and theatrical draperies.
While the room's architecture and decor was being spruced up, the home systems installers at Sierra Audio/Video Designs of Montroe, CT, brought in a 109-inch screen, a video projector, several speakers and sub-woofers and an impressive stack of audio and video components. The screen was tucked into an alcove to give it a built-in look, while the front speakers were recessed into the walls and painted.
But it's not just the home theatre system that makes this room such a delight, the homeowner explains. "We wanted to make it a fun place to hang out, so we also added a bar where you can have drinks and snacks, and we added a wonderful bathroom for convenience." A custom-made bubble gum machine and a popcorn machine complete the fun-loving atmosphere. It's easy to see why the room has become a favorite place for entertaining friends and family.
